Joshua Perez
1) Tell us something about yourself that your fans may not know.
A: I like to study math, so yes you can call me a nerd haha.
2) Who are some of your biggest musical inspirations?
A: Justin Bieber has always been my inspiration as a musician and as a masterful singer who has continued to impress people with his evolving art. Right now I draw inspiration from Lewis Capaldi who’s raw authenticity of emotions in his music evokes the deepest feelings within me and his ability to do that shakes me to the core. I try to bring the same level authenticity to my singing so I can affect people to the same level, leave them with music that is special and meaningful.
3) What made you want to start making music?
A: I’ve always loved music and I’ve been inspired by it ever since I was a young child. However I was brought up in a traditional household where school took priority over anything else. But I took a chance in high school to attend a musical school where I had the support to refine and grow my vocal talent. I was singing opera music and touring around the world. That experience changed my life. I knew music was my passion and for the first time in my life I had friends and teachers who encouraged me. Ever since then I have been making music in some way or form and I’ll continue making music because it’s what I love doing, especially when it can help uplift other people as well.
4) How has being from Toronto had an impact on your musical style, if any?
A: Toronto is a lively city with so many people all from different backgrounds. The diversity and inclusion this city has fostered is unlike any other. I think that has helped me embrace a musical style that anyone can appreciate, no matter what race or gender or sexuality they are. I try to create pop sounding music that is heavy with my emotions and hopefully connect people of any background together through my songs.
5) If you could only have 1 feature for the rest of your career, who would it be?
A: I would love to feature Justin Bieber, that's like a dream come true for me.
6) Did you play any sports growing up? Do you see the connection between sports & music?
A: I’ve played baseball all my life before I made music my only focus. The biggest connection I see is the level of discipline and dedication both activities require. You need both to win a game and to produce a masterful song. Baseball has helped shape my personality into someone who never gives up and is always working on self-improvement. This has only helped me become a better musician as I’ve consistently released music that has only improved over time and will continue to as I grow into a bigger artist.
7) What are your plans for 2020?
A: I have more singles set in motion to be released in the coming months so stay tuned for more music coming your way.
8) What’s next for Joshua Perez?
A: I am working on a collaboration called “Fall in Love” which will come out next month. Other than that I’m working on improving myself every day so I can always create better music for my fans.
