SYTE

1) Tell us something about yourselves that your fans may not know.

A: I (Nita) was born and raised in the United States, but I moved to Kosovo 5 years ago. SYTË was officially established a year later.

2) How did the two of you meet and come together to form SYTE?

A: It was the summer of 2016; I just finished a miserable third year of high school after being on accutane and getting my heart broken left and right (by internal and external forces). Total mess of a year. I decided I was going to release my desire to be in a relationship, since that never worked out for me, and simply have fun. I met Drin immediately after that. We connected so deeply so quickly, and we found out that we have musical chemistry alongside romantic chemistry. Summer came to an end and I had to go back home, so we did long distance for a year. During that time, we worked on our debut EP and really started setting the foundation for SYTË, which we would officially become in July of 2018. Fatlind Ferati (bass) and Granit Havolli (drums) joined the gang and we’ve been working on this collective dream of ours, to create music and live off of it, ever since!

3) How would you describe your sound to people who haven't heard it before?

A: Colorful, textured, funky, groovy, poetic. We’re big on eclecticism!

4) What went into your latest single 'Where Did The Love Go?’

A: Lots of time for building up the layers and fine tuning them. This song has been in the works for almost two years now! We really gave ourselves the space to let this piece settle. Rushing through a song and releasing it without allowing the time to absorb it leads to a lot of “I wish we had done ___ differently..”. We’ve officially adopted this principle as a part of our writing process moving forward.

5) How hard is it for you two to both decide when a song is complete?

A: The ups and downs of decision making in our music is a process we’ve both accepted as inevitable.

As natural as it feels working with Drin, we’re both so strong willed and hard-headed that we sometimes need to walk away from our projects for a day or two to let a little bit of that passion cool off. Drin is more of a minimalist whereas I am a maximalist. Drin is the efficiency guy and I am the intention girl. Sometimes I slow him down and sometimes he rushes me. But these two contrasting forces that we possess always bring us to conclusions that we’re both extremely proud of and happy to release. As we grow together (as musicians but also as people), our ideas are able to mesh with each other’s more easily! We’re both learning to surrender to our gut feelings rather than overthinking the details.

6) What's next for you for the rest of 2022?

A: New singles, more shows, and relocation to New York City :)
