1) Tell us something about yourself that your fans may not know.
A: I’m a certified Reiki practitioner! In general, spirituality plays a huge role in my life. I love metaphysics, numerology, and card readings. I’m big on energy.
2) How did you get started in music?
A: I was 5 years old when I started taking piano lessons. I took some voice lessons shortly after, but was never consistent with them. I always hated practicing – both voice and piano. Somehow, I made it through piano lessons for 8 years, and that set the foundation for my love of music. I was in various choirs throughout high school and college, and then got into the entertainment scene doing cover gigs around 2013. I started focusing more on being an artist in 2017, and released my first EP in 2020.
3) Who are some artists who have influenced your music style?
A: Brent Faiyaz & Sonder, Amy Winehouse, Erykah Badu, and various Motown/classic artists (Diana Ross & The Supremes & Stevie Wonder, to name a few).
4) You recently released your single 'Whose Side?' What was the inspiration behind it?
A: One of my best friends lives in Jacksonville. Whenever I speak with or see him, he has some new colloquialism he’s using – back in 2020 when I wrote this song, he was always saying ‘whose side are you on’ as a joke when I’d agree with his friends and not him. I took that and made it into a song about choosing sides – which was also relevant to a situation I was dealing with in my personal life at the time.
5) If you could describe your music in 2 words how would you describe it?
A: Versatile and soulful.
6) What's next for Soleil in 2021?
A: I’m releasing the music video for ‘Whose Side?’ in early March. My next single is releasing at the end of March and I’ll be releasing some videos for that as well. I have an R&B/Hip-Hop album that I wrote with a friend coming out later this year. Tons of new music, visuals, and shows on the way!
