Tommy Newport
1) Tell us something about yourself that your fans may not know.
A: My dream before music was film, and I wanted to make, write, direct films or be an actor but when I picked up a guitar it felt like I could do all of that in a song so I put all my motivation into that. I still hope to be a part of that world in film in some way, someday.
2) What's it been like gaining buzz at such a young age as an artist?
A: It's been amazing, I'm always grateful no matter how big or small I am. But it took a lot of hard work, many days of being uncomfortable, disappointed, wanting to pack up. Being so young when I started I was naive to everything in the world let alone a massive machine of an industry so It's a huge learning curve that takes practice to manage, but when the good moments hit, they’re extra good.
3) What was the inspiration behind your latest single?
A: I think it's inspired by more folk rock americana style songs I enjoy, I wanted to keep it light and simple and have these big moments in the choruses. Definitely inspired by the Rolling Stones or Dylan but in my own way.
4) What's the most exciting thing about going on tour?
A: Performing is what we all are mindlessly driving around for 10 hours a day for. There's a lot of fun moments off stage on tour but ultimately nothing beats playing the set. It's an indescribable feeling. I speak for myself but it never gets old.
5) What makes you different as an artist?
A: I think because I gained an audience on my first project at 17, my supporters have been able to watch me grow and figure it out as I go. I had so much to learn back then and no Idea what I was doing, I still don't, but my projects end up being more experimental, evolving, and dip into a handful of different genres.
6) What's next as 2022 comes to an end?
A: A full length LP is coming in 2022 my first since 2018 so it's a really big moment for me and I am excited to share it with everyone.
